Pre finished doors are a key part of our product offering here at Savoy Timber, and we’ve always been proud of our ability to offer them to you at truly amazing prices. While you’ll also find a lot of unfinished doors amongst our stock, we often find that it’s prefinished doors which are the most popular choice with many of our customers. Here are just a few of the reasons why!
This one’s no real secret. If you’ve ever ordered a prefinished door like our Pattern 10 Shaker style oak internal door, you’ll already know that it’s a truly effortless process. Even once the door arrives, you only need to attach the hinges and screw it onto the frame. Really, that’s all there is to it!
Unfinished doors, on the other hand, require a bit more of a time investment. Lots of our customers are seasoned DIYers who enjoy the challenge and the pastime of finishing their interior doors. However, other customers are less than thrilled about the idea of having to clear an afternoon to apply several layers of paint. It involves clearing a fair bit of time, as well as plenty of space for mats, brushes, and other bits and pieces. You’ve also got to have enough room to be able to lay the doors down flat to dry, too. All this can be a hassle in smaller homes or busy family spaces, which makes pre-finished doors an ideal choice instead!
When it comes to your home, aesthetics are always going to be a top priority. This doesn’t just apply to oak internal doors by the way – it’s about everything! If you’re going to be looking at it every day, it needs to look at its very best. That’s why it can be so frustrating to buy an unfinished door, and then end up layering on an uneven finish. Now, it’s often no problem for those with some experience behind them. For those who’ve never tackled the job before, though, it can make everything very high-stakes! For that reason, we find that first-time DIYers tend to prefer sticking to prefinished doors.

As a general rule, prefinished doors tend to be more durable than unfinished ones. This is because while you can confidently apply two or three coats at home, a factory-finished door is able to apply as many as seven or even more! Now, the increased durability isn’t always a concern for every homeowner. However, if you have a particularly busy house, or the door is going in a high-traffic area such as the kitchen, you might want to consider pre-finished doors first.
