How to find your property boundaries<\/h2>\n

When you’re planning to put up a fence, the first and most important thing to know is where your property boundaries are. If you don’t know exactly where your land starts and ends, you could accidentally install your fence on someone else’s land, which could lead to issues with neighbours and even legal trouble. If you don’t already know, checking your property deeds or title papers is the quickest way to find out where the boundaries of your property lie. However, if you need more information or have any questions, you can always reach out to the HM Land Registry<\/a><\/strong>, and they’ll be able to advise you further.<\/p>\n

If after all that you’re still unsure about where your boundaries are, it’s worth bringing a surveyor in to accurately measure your land and clearly mark the boundary lines – that way, nothing is left to guesswork. The easiest option is to put the fence a little bit inside your property so you don’t accidentally build on your neighbour’s land; this way, you also have complete control over the fence.<\/p>\n

Or, if you and your neighbour both agree, you can always place the fence directly on the boundary line between your properties and split the price of the fence. This is an excellent choice for shared spaces. However, you need to have a clear and mutual understanding before proceeding. Since the fence will sit on the boundary, both you and your neighbour may share responsibility for its upkeep, including repairs and maintenance.<\/p>\n

It’s important to talk about and document any plans about how certain tasks like repairs will be handled if and when they happen. This way, everyone will know what to expect, and there won’t be any confusion later on.<\/p>\n
