With Halloween done and dusted, you know that the next big event that\u2019s fast approaching is Bonfire Night. So to celebrate, instead of heading out to your community firework show, why not set-up your very now firework display in the comfort of your garden?<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been supplying our customers with the finest DIY building materials for both home and garden applications for over 70 years here at Savoy Timber<\/a><\/strong>, so we\u2019ve learned a few tips and tricks on how best to safely put on a DIY firework display, without damaging you, or your timber decking<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Weather warnings<\/h2>\n

Of course, we\u2019ll all have our fingers crossed that it won\u2019t rain on the big night, but this is Britain after all so it\u2019s best not to get our hopes up too much. As annoying as a bit of rain would be, it\u2019s not the end of the world. You might be surprised to learn that you can actually waterproof your fireworks with bin bags or cling film, so long as your fuses remain dry, your firework show is safe!<\/p>\n

While rain isn\u2019t a dealbreaker, wind most certainly can be. If you get hit with strong winds before your firework display is about to get underway, you might want to seriously consider whether it\u2019s safe to go ahead or not. It only takes one rogue firework to cause serious damage to your garden, or cause significant injury to you or anyone else in attendance. If you\u2019re not sure, it\u2019s probably best to postpone.<\/p>\n

Vary up your explosive selection<\/h2>\n

On a lighter note, make sure to include a wide mix of fireworks, flares, Catherine wheels and so on to keep your display fun and varied. If you weren\u2019t already aware, category 2 and 3 fireworks<\/a><\/strong> are permitted for use within a home environment, and have a minimum spectator distance of 15 metres. However, anything larger (category 4) is reserved strictly for use by professionals only.<\/p>\n

Each kind of firework presents its own kind of danger (they are small explosives after all). We\u2019d therefore advise that you read the instructions thoroughly before attempting to light any of them up, and if a firework fails to go off, leave it in place until the next morning, as it could still go off if you attempt to interfere with it. As a general rule of thumb, only buy fireworks that show the British Standard Kitemark BS7114, and never buy any from shifty looking blokes flogging them from the boots of their cars.<\/p>\n

Keep your kids well away<\/h2>\n

Small children are curious by nature, and in most situations this is a good thing. However, your garden DIY firework display is not the place to let your child\u2019s curious nature get the better of them so, make it very clear from the outset where they\u2019re allowed to stand and where they\u2019re to avoid, and as an extra precaution, it\u2019s always worth keeping a bucket of water to hand, just in case.<\/p>\n

So, if you\u2019re planning on putting on your very own DIY firework display this year, just remember that any wrong moves could result in a significant injury, or damage to your garden features. But most of all, enjoy it!<\/p>\n
