2021 saw homeowners across the UK introducing some big changes for their own gardens, which has given rise to some hugely interesting garden design trends. And since it\u2019s that time of year again, we thought we\u2019d take a look at some of our favourites, to give you some cool inspiration for your own space.
\nWhether you\u2019re thinking about changing your timber decking<\/a><\/strong>, or the fencing around your garden, we have some great trends for you to choose from to completely revitalise your garden.<\/p>\n

Rewilding your garden<\/h2>\n

One of the biggest trends at the moment is rewilding. You may have heard the term already \u2013 but what exactly does it mean? Well, essentially, rewilding is the process by which you let nature take the reins and let the grass and flowers grow longer without cutting them, to encourage nature and a more natural outdoor environment.<\/p>\n

Although in the past most rewilding projects have been larger-scale initiatives enacted by bigger organisations with a view towards minimising or reversing environmental damage, in recent years smaller-scale projects have become rapidly more popular amongst homeowners. And no wonder, as it can make your garden unique.<\/p>\n

In 2022, people want more natural-looking gardens, quite possibly prompted by the reconnection to nature that so many of us experienced at the height of the lockdowns in the beginning of the pandemic. So rewilding might be one to consider for yours!<\/p>\n

Water features<\/h2>\n

Water features have always taken a backseat to many other features in the
\ngarden in recent years, but in 2021 and 2022, this has started to change. Again, it\u2019s quite likely to spring from this reconnection to nature that so many of us have experienced.<\/p>\n

Water features add something new to a garden and can come in different styles to suit all sorts of different gardens. In particular, Mediterranean water fountains are proving to be particularly popular in 2022. Their white colour provides an impressive backdrop against the water, creating a calming feel, perfect for those wanting to relax in their garden.<\/p>\n

Another garden design trend that is increasing in popularity recently is xeriscaping. It\u2019s a somewhat obscure term, so let\u2019s break it down a little! Xeriscaping essentially focuses on reducing the need for irrigation as much as possible. With changing climates, water features that serve as both a stylish feature and a great option for irrigation may be an ideal solution for a growing problem.<\/p>\n

Colourful and unique gardens<\/h2>\n

There are so many captivating colours in nature, many of them truly stunning in their beauty. So why not let your garden showcase a few? Everything from colourful plants to fences that spring out at you when you look at them, making a garden colourful can look great no matter what time of the year.<\/p>\n

Contrasting dark flowers and foliage with bright sunflowers are sure to provide a great look for a garden needing that something extra to help achieve uniqueness. Bicolour plants are also a great option for this, especially if you want to create a particularly unique look and feel for your garden.<\/p>\n

Create liveable outdoor areas<\/h2>\n

Outdoor areas should be one of the key focal points for any home. One creative way to do this is to bring the indoors out and the outdoors in. Extending the area in which you can relax in is a great idea to make the space you have available feel bigger, blurring the boundaries between your indoor and outdoor space.<\/p>\n

One growing trend in the last few years has been the addition of wooden and composite decking. Building decking onto the garden can create a nice platform for you to relax on. What\u2019s more, you can add a gazebo or other shelter on top of it so you can relax outside during all seasons.<\/p>\n

And if you\u2019ve already got your decking installed, there are plenty of things you can think about adding to it to make it as comfortable as possible. Think about adding things like a deck chair or a hammock to well and truly doze off in when spending time in the outdoor paradise.<\/p>\n

Another way to can add to your outside area is through tall shrubbery. One of the problems that many people have with their gardens is that it is too much of a problem when privacy is concerned. However, by adding tall shrubbery, it can give you more privacy and a more enclosed place.<\/p>\n

Nowadays, everyone wants some ambient lights to really create a sense of cosiness in a garden. Whether you add lamps dotted around your garden, string lights, or any other type of lighting is completely up to you. It\u2019s a good idea to play around to see what would look best.
