The venerated man shed has been a valued retreat for time immemorial, the perfect place to get yourself a break from the stresses of everyday life. A experts on timber<\/a><\/strong> and composite decking<\/a><\/strong> here at Savoy Timber, we\u2019ve got a bit of experience with creating these sorts of spaces ourselves \u2013 as do many of our customers! So, if you\u2019re thinking about constructing your own man-shed, here are a couple of our top tips on how to get the job done.<\/p>\n

Creating a dedicated space<\/h2>\n

The first thing you need to decide on is how you intend to use your man-shed; will it be for work or pleasure, or maybe a mix of the two? Perhaps it will be somewhere you\u2019d like to work when the house gets too loud, but also a place you can go for some down time. This decision will affect the layout and colour scheme and a number of other factors, so it\u2019s a good one to make early on!<\/p>\n

Choosing a colour scheme<\/h2>\n

This all depends on how you want to use your new space, but here are a few colour options for you to mull over.<\/p>\n

– White and cream<\/p>\n

While white can be quite a clinical colour, it also makes an excellent blank canvas for you to decorate around. By painting the area white, you can make a small space appear larger, cleaner, and more open. It would work well, especially if you\u2019re using this area for work, as it will create a cool and refreshing atmosphere. If you find white too cold and sterile, then there are plenty warmer cream shades available.<\/p>\n

– Red and orange<\/p>\n

These are generally seen as warm and cosy colours, adding warmth to a room that may otherwise appear cold. Using both colours will add an energy to your room that other colours won\u2019t, and are excellent choices if you want to use your man-shed as an entertainment hub.<\/p>\n

– Blue and green<\/p>\n

A more cooler colour combination, blues and greens are thought to be more relaxing; making you feel closer to nature. Bearing this in mind, they both make a lovely colour combination if you want your man-shed to be a sense of calm in the chaos of your life. You can even add a touch of lime green if you want to bring some energy into the room, as well as a sharp blast of colour.<\/p>\n

Creating the perfect environment<\/h2>\n

What you want to use your man-shed for will ultimately decide the furniture and d\u00e9cor choices. For example, if you are creating a place for you to relax and watch movies, then a television and comfy seats will be a must. Whereas if you are wanting to use the space more for work, then a desk and ergonomic chair would be ideal. Regardless of what you want to use the space for, you want to make the room somewhere you enjoy spending time, so adding some comfort to a workspace could also be beneficial.<\/p>\n
