Let\u2019s be honest, Spring 2021 has been a bit of a washout so far – especially in the past month or so! Unfortunately, it looks like things will be a little rainy for the time being, but there are already rumours of an impeding heatwave in June. Whether or not that actually happens, hopefully at least we\u2019ve got some sunshine to look forward to!<\/p>\n

Personally here at Savoy Timber, we always like to stay optimistic when it comes to stuff like this, so with that in mind we\u2019ve come up with a couple of cool ideas you can work on in the meantime, so that your timber decking<\/strong><\/a> or composite decking<\/strong><\/a> is ready to get some proper relaxation time in when the sun finally comes out.<\/p>\n

Get some creative illuminations on your decking<\/h2>\n

Just recently on the 17th of May, restrictions eased further across the UK, allowing for bigger groups to meet indoors and outdoors<\/strong><\/a>. Notably, overnight stays are now legal once more – so if you\u2019re planning on doing some entertaining out on your decking, and staying out there into the night, it\u2019s a good plan to get some lighting out on your decking. As for the type of lighting in question, that\u2019s all up to you! You can choose some simple solar-powered lights for practical safety purposes, or get a little more creative with some coloured options to cultivate a specific mood or feeling out on your decking.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also worth considering heat lamps, just in case you ever need to banish those lingering chills on otherwise comfortable summer evenings.<\/p>\n

Settling down in all-weather decking shelters<\/h2>\n

Historically, the summer weather can be choppy across the UK, but particularly so in the temperate North of the country (where we\u2019re based here at Savoy Timber!). If you\u2019re confident of reliably sunny weather, a pergola or an arbour are both excellent options for enjoying some shelter from the elements in your garden. If you\u2019re (rightly) suspicious of that flighty old sun, however, you might want something a bit more protective, like a gazebo. Best of all, a gazebo can be outfitted with a whole range of creature comforts, like lighting, heating and comfortable chairs.<\/p>\n

Enjoying an outdoor bar<\/h2>\n

This is one of those fantastic garden additions that you can ostensibly enjoy with company – but let\u2019s be honest, there\u2019s nothing stopping you from getting stuck in on your tod either! If you\u2019re handy enough with your toolbox, and you enjoy having a cold one in the sunshine, building yourself an outdoor bar is a fantastic project to while away some of those long weekends. Just take care to ensure that your outdoor bar is built on a very solid surface that can indefinitely withstand its full weight. In other words, it\u2019s probably better to place it very close to (rather than actually on) your decking.<\/p>\n

Sitting back in a hot tub for entertaining<\/h2>\n

OK, so this is one of the more ambitious and costly potential options on the agenda, but there\u2019s no denying that it\u2019s one heck of a party piece, and it\u2019s one that you and all the family can get plenty of enjoyment out of all summer long, too. Now, you\u2019ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to the range of choice available, but even the smaller jacuzzis will probably end up setting you back close to a four-figure sum, so be prepared for that.<\/p>\n

Just as with the outdoor bar above, you\u2019ll probably need to do a lot of research in advance to decide on exactly where\u2019s the best place to position it. You\u2019ll probably want to keep it fairly close to your decking for easy access, but not actually on it – once again, it might not be guaranteed to take the weight. You\u2019ll also want to consider how close it\u2019s located to trees, gutters or sheds, too, as it may make it accordingly easier or harder to maintain – you\u2019ve got to keep it clear of contaminants that may drop or flutter down into it! Sure, it might involve a bit of work, but the thought of sinking down into that enveloping warmth in the sunshine might just be enough to make it all worth it.<\/p>\n
