A new deck can transform your garden to create a new area to relax or entertain guests for years to come. Though with all of the decking options, if you\u2019ve never built a deck before, it might be difficult to know where to start.<\/p>\n

To help you decide which decking is right for you, be sure to first consider the size of your project, your region, and if it will need to go around a pool, hot-tub, pond or other water feature \u2014 as you may need to consider composite, hardwood, instead of regular timber decking.<\/p>\n

Timber<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s important to mention right from the start our decking is slow grown over about 80 years from Swedish Pine. From there it\u2019s pressure treated with Tanalith E that\u2019s a water borne timber preservative suitable outdoor use. This will help protect the wood from rot and the elements.<\/p>\n

Our decking timber is grooved to provide channels for the water to flow to prevent and standing water that can lead to rot or warping. The timber decking here at Savoy, comes in super saver, value, and deluxe types.<\/p>\n

The main difference between these types are the thickness of the boards, the depth of the grooves and the ability to be reversible. You\u2019ll want to check the surface area of your potential decking project against the stable finished size on each of these types, before deciding which board is right for you!<\/p>\n

Hardwood<\/h2>\n

We typically recommend our customers choose hardwood decking if they have a pool, hot tub, or area that frequently sees a lot of water. Hardwood decking is great option for those looking for a very durable and strong deck.<\/p>\n

This is because hardwood timber decking, like Balau, has fantastic water resistance and is a very stable wood. By stable, we mean it is resistant to warping \u2014 this is because it comes from the tropical region of Thailand.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, people prefer Balau hardwood decking because of the darker colour when compared to the slight green of normal timber decking. We recommend you come down to our stores to see the colours and feel the textures in person!<\/p>\n

Composite<\/h3>\n

Composite decking isn\u2019t technically timber decking. But, it does look the same!<\/p>\n

Our solid core composite decking<\/a> is made from a unique blend of recycled plastic and wood fibres wrapped in a hard protective shell. The shell is then 3D grooved to make it anti-slip and look more like real wood and comes in a range of wood-like colours.<\/p>\n

Because of the materials and process used our composite decking doesn\u2019t warp, split, or twist and is even UV resistant to colour fading. This makes it an excellent choice if you\u2019re looking for a stunning, low-maintenance, and long lasting decking solution.<\/p>\n
