Though with all of the decking options, if you’ve never built a deck before, it might be difficult to know where to start.

To help you decide which decking is right for you, be sure to first consider the size of your project, your region, and if it will need to go around a pool, hot-tub, pond or other water feature — as you may need to consider composite, hardwood, instead of regular timber decking.

You don’t need to know everything about your decking project but knowing the approximate size and conditions will help you make an informed decision. And if you ever need any help just give us a call or pop by to our stores! We’re always on hand to help!

Timber

It’s important to mention right from the start our decking is slow grown over about 80 years from Swedish Pine. From there it’s pressure treated with Tanalith E that’s a water borne timber preservative suitable outdoor use. This will help protect the wood from rot and the elements.

Our decking timber is grooved to provide channels for the water to flow to prevent and standing water that can lead to rot or warping. The timber decking here at Savoy, comes in super saver, value, and deluxe types.

The main difference between these types are the thickness of the boards, the depth of the grooves and the ability to be reversible. You’ll want to check the surface area of your potential decking project against the stable finished size on each of these types, before deciding which board is right for you!

If you’re looking to create a stunning leisure and garden area in a cost-effective way our timber decking is some of the best you’ll find!

Hardwood

We typically recommend our customers choose hardwood decking if they have a pool, hot tub, or area that frequently sees a lot of water. Hardwood decking is great option for those looking for a very durable and strong deck.

This is because hardwood timber decking, like Balau, has fantastic water resistance and is a very stable wood. By stable, we mean it is resistant to warping — this is because it comes from the tropical region of Thailand.

Sometimes, people prefer Balau hardwood decking because of the darker colour when compared to the slight green of normal timber decking. We recommend you come down to our stores to see the colours and feel the textures in person!

Composite

Composite decking isn’t technically timber decking. But, it does look the same!

Our solid core composite decking is made from a unique blend of recycled plastic and wood fibres wrapped in a hard protective shell. The shell is then 3D grooved to make it anti-slip and look more like real wood and comes in a range of wood-like colours.

Because of the materials and process used our composite decking doesn’t warp, split, or twist and is even UV resistant to colour fading. This makes it an excellent choice if you’re looking for a stunning, low-maintenance, and long lasting decking solution.

Despite what you may have heard, winter is a great time to install your deck because it can allow the boards to cure, or in the case of composite decking it can withstand the harsh elements.

Be sure to come by our store if you need garden decking materials – we even have a range of DIY garden decking kits in timber and in composite materials to save you time and money.
