What\u2019s more, there are certain rules and property regulations that state firmly whether you need a fire door in your home. The question is, does that mean you should have at least one fire door installed in your home? We\u2019ve dedicated this week\u2019s blog to answering that very question \u2013 the answer\u2019s not that straightforward!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What Does The Law Say?<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone wp-image-1207 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.savoytimber.com\/help-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Do-You-Need-A-Fire-Door-For-Your-Home-1.jpg\" alt=\" handle and lock\" width=\"730\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/savoytimber.com\/help-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Do-You-Need-A-Fire-Door-For-Your-Home-1.jpg 730w, https:\/\/savoytimber.com\/help-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Do-You-Need-A-Fire-Door-For-Your-Home-1-300x123.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The thing about fire door regulations is that depending on the type of property concerned, they\u2019re quite complex and a little confusing to boot. That\u2019s why here at Savoy Timber we\u2019ve taken the liberty of breaking it down a little for you, giving you the key points so we can hopefully save you a headache. So, say you\u2019re looking at replacing the internal doors in your family home \u2013 does the law state that you have to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savoytimber.com\/internal-doors.html\">fire doors<\/a>? Well, most of the time, no. It does say, however, that in the case of two-storey buildings (which includes family homes), any door that leads from an integral garage directly to the house should be a fire door.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a connecting garage, though, it\u2019s worth remembering that there\u2019s nothing stopping you from installing fire doors in place of regular internal doors if you want. After all, you can never be too safe \u2013 and if an emergency ever occurs, you might well end up being thankful you took the time. At Savoy Timber, all of our fire doors meet the FD30 criteria, which means they\u2019re able to protect against flames and smoke for at least thirty minutes. That time could end up making all the difference. (Incidentally, don\u2019t forget to close all fire doors before you leave the house, and just before going to bed. If you\u2019re replacing\u00a0 existing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savoytimber.com\/internal-doors.html\">internal doors<\/a> and you\u2019re planning to use the same frames for your new fire door, these will need to be looked at first. FD30 fire doors are generally about 44mm thick, whereas standard doors are 35mm thick.
